Joe Jonas is stepping out on his own for the next chapter in his discography. The 34-year-old singer has historically performed in groups like the Jonas Brothers, alongside his siblings Nick Jonas It is Kevin Jonasand DNCE, alongside Jack Lawless, JinJoo Lee and Cole Whittle.
But with his next solo track “Work It Out” set to drop on July 19, the father of two is opening up about his upcoming solo album, which he shared will be released later this year.
During an appearance on Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast, Joe talked about receiving his brothers’ “blessings” to make music on his own.
“I asked my brothers for their blessing. I was like, ‘Hey, I’m going to work, I don’t want to call it solo, but I’m going to do something on my own, and I don’t feel like it’s DNCE. And I just need to express some things to myself,'” Joe shared. “And they were like, ‘Go for it. ‘ Nick booked a movie. Kevin was going to do another season of Claim to fame…and then I had the window of time.”
The former Disney Channel alum said he made the album in just two weeks, calling it “the most personal music I’ve ever released.”
He shared that his upcoming single, “Work It Out,” is about getting out of a slump.
“The idea is that sometimes you realize you need to get rid of something and you’re the only person who’s going to fix it for you. No one’s going to save you,” he said.
As for what fans can expect from the album, which will be released “later this year,” Joe said, “This music is all over the place. There are some really beautiful ballads, there are some songs about being a father, there are songs about love, there are songs about being better with yourself, kind of everything.”
Joe recently released a solo album, titled fast lifein 2011. In 2019, he reunited with the Jonas Brothers, and in 2023, the group released their sixth studio album, The album.
It’s been a tough year for Joe in his personal life. In September 2023, the singer and his ex Sophie Turner have announced their plans to divorce after four years of marriage. The exes share daughters Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2.
In October 2023, the exes made a temporary custody agreement not long after Sophie sued Joe claiming “undue retention” of her young daughters. In January 2024, she filed a request to dismiss the action.
However, the divorce, which Joe first filed in September, has yet to be finalized. In those court documents, obtained by ET, Joe said that “the marriage between the parties is irrevocably broken.”
Sophie has since moved in with her boyfriend Peregrine Pearson. Joe had a brief romance with Stormi Bree.

Amid the divorce proceedings, Sophie noted that “there were some days where I didn’t know if I was going to make it.” She said she would even call her lawyer and tell them she didn’t think she would make it.
“After two weeks of being in a rut, she reminded me that it was my children I was fighting for,” Sophie said of her attorney. “When someone tells me, ‘Do it for your children,’ I do it. I wouldn’t do it for myself, but I will find strength for them.”
