Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer says the lesson from the French election is that citizens are dissatisfied and distrustful of politicians.
“The lesson I’m learning is that we have to deal with the everyday concerns of so many people in this country who feel disenchanted with politics, who feel that either the country is too broken to fix or that they can’t trust politicians because of what they’ve done.
We need to face this head on and we need to show, on Thursday, to the UK, and across Europe and the world, that only progressives have the answers to the challenges we face in this country and across Europe. ” Starmer observed.
“We have to make a progressive call. But in doing so we must understand why, certainly in the UK, after 14 years of chaos and failure, people feel dissatisfied with politics.”
