Firefighters not only from the island, but also from Athens and Syros battled the flames in Serifos throughout the night.
Now the fire has no active front, only scattered outbreaks. However, significant damage has already been caused in the southwestern part of the island.
The president of the Chamber of Sérifos, Konstantinos Revinthis, speaking to Mega, stressed that the fire stopped at sea.
Drops of water directed today
“It was a very difficult night, with very strong winds,” he said. Today, they are constantly monitoring the firefighting vehicles, and soon the targeted dropping of water from helicopters will begin.
As the mayor said, houses, warehouses and chapels suffered significant damage.
54 fires yesterday – Fire Department is also on alert today
Without an active front, however, the fire in Katsimidi of Parnitha. In the last 24 hours there were 54 agroforestry fires, of which 44 were fought immediately, in their initial phase.

The fire risk is also very high for Sunday, as according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr), a very high fire risk is predicted (risk category 4) for the following areas:
- Region of Attica (including the island of Kythira)
- Peloponnese region (Corinthia region, Argolis region, Laconia region)
- Crete region
- North Aegean Region (Lesvos Region, Chios Region, Samos Region, Ikaria Region)
- South Aegean Region (Cyclades)
- Central Greece Region (PE Boeotia, PE Fthiotida, PE Evia)
