More details on the Food & Drug Administration’s canned coffee recall
On Thursday, June 20, the FDA announced a to remember of canned coffee products manufactured by Snapchill LLC. The association’s notice stated that the company initially announced the recall on Monday, June 20.
Additionally, the FDA notes that the recall was prompted by Snapchill’s current manufacturing process, which “can lead to the growth and production of the deadly toxin, botulinum toxin, in low-acid canned foods.”
The warning states that “botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning,” can lead to “general weakness, dizziness, double vision, and problems speaking or swallowing.” Additionally, botulism can cause “difficulty breathing, weakness of other muscles” and even constipation.
Additionally, symptoms can begin anywhere from six hours to two weeks after consuming the toxin.
Here are the products that were potentially impacted
According to the FDA report, Snapchill’s canned coffee products were distributed nationwide. They were reportedly sold in coffee roasters, retail stores and Snapchill’s online store.
Food and Wine reports that the total number of potentially impacted products approaches nearly 300. A full list of potentially impacted canned coffee products and brands can be found here.
Some brands on the list include Bold Bean, Farmhouse, and Red Rooster.
Furthermore, the FDA adds that potentially impacted products can be identified by the expression “Snapchill Coffee” or “Produced and distributed by Snapchill LLC”, found next to the nutritional table.
