Trump’s stance on abortion
CNN hosted a 90-minute presidential debate where President Biden and Donald Trump clashed over a range of topics. Their most extensive exchange, however, focused on their positions on abortion.
According to CNBCTrump claimed that Biden supported abortion up to birth, which Biden denied by stating his support for Roe v. Wade. Wade, a long-standing precedent in the United States.
During the presidential debate, Trump clarified that he has no intention of blocking abortion medications when asked about it.
“First of all, the Supreme Court just approved the abortion pill, and I agree with their decision to do so, and I will not block it! 51 years ago, you had Roe v. Wade and everyone wanted to return him to the States, people! Everyone wanted it back, Trump explained.
Trump continued to assert that he deserves credit for returning control over abortion rights to the states, claiming that it was a popular demand. Donnie also stated his agreement with the 40th US President Ronald Reagan regarding exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother.
“I think it’s very important. Some people don’t, (but) they follow their heart. The problem they have is they take the life of a child in the eighth month and ninth month and even after birth. What’s happened is we brought it back to the states and the country is now coming together on this issue. It’s been a great thing!” Trump added.
President Biden’s stance on abortion
However, President Biden harshly criticized Trump, saying he had done a “terrible thing”.
“The fact is that the vast majority of continental academics supported Roe when it was decided. Now there’s this idea that they’re all against it, it’s just ridiculous! And this is the guy who says the state should be able to have this,” Biden said.
President Biden continued to emphasize his position that decisions regarding women’s health should not be made by politicians. Additionally, he affirmed his commitment to restoring Roe v. Wade if elected.
“This idea that the founders want politicians to make decisions about women’s health is ridiculous! No politician should make this decision, a doctor should make these decisions. This is how it should be run. And if I am elected, I will restore Roe v. Wade. Wade,” added the president.
