“Giving new life to beloved gadgets in my wardrobe has always been special to me. For many years, I have donated my wardrobe treasures to help the Elton John AIDS Foundation,” John said in a statement. “This month of pleasure, I’m excited to share my Atlanta treasure on eBay, hoping these things encourage you to express your distinctive spirit and bring you as much pleasure as they brought me. Whether you’re after high-end luxury or something more relaxed, there’s an ideal find for everyone. Even better, every dollar goes to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s work to end LGBTQ+ stigma.”
To kick off the auction on Thursday, arts entrepreneur Emma Rogue and singer-songwriter Stephen Sanchez hosted a shopping event streamed live on eBay Live featuring Elton John and David Furnish. Along with hundreds of pieces from Elton’s wardrobe, David Furnish, Donatella Versace, Brandi Carlile, Betsey Johnson, Robin Roberts and Andy Cohen will be offering pre-loved pieces selected from their own closets. The collection will also be available to browse in a physical store open from 2pm to 6pm ET in New York City on June 27th.
“Elton John’s wardrobe has been years in the making – to own something he’s worn is to own a piece of music and fashion history,” said Charis Marquez, eBay’s vice president of fashion, in a statement. “Having a cultural icon promote his pre-owned fashion on eBay in support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation is a real indicator of our ability to provide unimaginable access to luxury gadgets that you simply can’t find anywhere else.”
