Chris Evans It is Dwayne Johnson are getting ready to meet Santa Claus at first sight Red.
A new trailer for the 2024 holiday film was released on Tuesday and provided long-awaited context for the film featuring the Oscar winner JK Simmons playing a strong St. Nick and Johnson, 52, acting as the “man with the bag’s” head of security.
In the new trailer, Johnson’s character Callum Drift — the “ELF Task Force Commander,” according to the film’s description — assists Santa with bench press reps and helps him prepare for the big night before discover that the infamous Character associated with Christmas has been kidnapped at the North Pole.
“Someone took Red,” Johnson says in the first minute of the trailer. “We’ll find him.”
Evans – who plays master tracker Jack O’Malley – is recruited by another member of the ELF team, Zoe (Lucy Liu), to help find the “Red One” (aka Santa Claus) before time runs out and Christmas is ruined for millions of children around the world.
“Are you saying Santa Claus was kidnapped?” Evans asks Liu and Johnson, laughing and expressing his disbelief.
“You can’t trust this guy, he’s the list“, Johnson tells Liu about Evans’ character. “You don’t mean–” Evans starts off as the Moana the actor interrupts him: “Yes, that list. NL-4.”
“Are you telling me this clown is a level four naughty lister?” replies a polar bear bodyguard who roars in rage at Evans’ character, dismissing what is a very serious situation.
The rest of the trailer shows Evans and Johnson getting up to some serious mischief, including using a little Christmas magic to transform a toy car into a drivable luxury vehicle, slapping Krampus – St.’s devilish sidekick, and fighting Mega snowmen who have the ability to rebuild themselves, all in a unique mashup of JAY-Z’s “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” and “Carol of the Bells.”
“There are worse ways to go out than trying to save Santa,” Evans says in the nearly three-minute video released Tuesday.
Aside from the obvious star power mentioned above, Red also features Bonnie Hunt, Nick Kroll, Kiernan Shipka, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Marc Evan Jackson and The Game of Thrones former student Kristofer Hivju. It is directed by Jumangi: The Next Level director Jake Kasdan and written by Fast and furious scribe Chris Morgan.
The film was originally scheduled to hit Amazon MGM Studios’ streaming platform Prime Video in time for the 2023 holiday season, but was eventually delayed by a full year. At the time, officials cited the 118-day SAG-AFTRA strike as the reason for the delay. The film was one of the numerous delayed projectsincluding Luca Guadagnino Challengers It is Dune: Part 2.
Red now Sleigh Rides in theaters on November 15th.
