Bill Murray has three people in mind to portray him in the highly anticipated SNL 1975 film, which has already begun filming in New York City.
Directed by Jason Reitman, the film portrays the moments leading up to the first episode of Saturday night live on October 11, 1975.
That year, Murray was named a cast member on the ABC variety show. Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell. In the same season, NBC debuted a variety show called Saturday night. Cosell’s show lasted only one season and was canceled in early 1976. Murray was cast on the NBC variety show, whose name was changed to Saturday night live in 1977 and worked there until 1980.
At Thursday’s premiere Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire at the AMC Lincoln Square Theater in New York City, the 73-year-old actor shared with ET’s Rachel Smith who he would like to play him. SNL 1975. “Of all the people who came after me (in SNL), I think I really liked Kenan Thompson. He could play me – or Bill Hader. Those two.”
Murray added: “Or Kristen Wiig. Any one of those three could play with me.”
Meanwhile, at the debut of Apple TV+ Palma Real at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Thursday, Wiig reacted to Murray suggesting she should play him.
“That’s what he said?” the 50-year-old actress – who was part of the cast of SNL from 2005 to 2012 – asked ET’s Denny Directo, before responding: “With pleasure, with pleasure, yes. I’m ready.”
Wiig would join an all-star cast if she took on the role of Murray in SNL 1975. To name a few, Nicholas Podany will play Billy Crystal, Gabriel LaBelle will play Lorne Michaels, Cory Michael Smith will play Chevy Chase, Dylan O’Brien will play Dan Aykroyd, and Matt Wood will play John Belushi.

There is no set release date for SNL 1975but fans can catch Murray in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire when it hits theaters on March 22. And Wiig’s show, Palma Real, premieres on Apple TV+ on March 20.
