The man was excited to style his late wife’s cake again, but his kids blew up at him after he revealed the bakery’s only setting to recreate the recipe.
A man is wondering if he was in the wrong after his kids blasted him for “promoting” his late wife’s chocolate cake recipe just because he wanted to style it again.
Shared with Reddit’s notorious AITA (“I am the hole”) discussion forum, the person’s story details his many attempts to recreate a recipe that he left notes for. However, he would never get it right – and when his children refused to help, he asked a bakery for help.
The only situation they had to cook it, however, generated serious domestic drama. Keep reading to see the full story and how Redditors reacted.
OP (aka “authentic poster”) started his Reddit story by first revealing how difficult it was to let go of his wife.
“My late wife passed away three years ago, our two children were in their late 20s at the time. It’s been a tough few years and it’s even tougher now that I’m on my own,” he began his thread, before sharing his connection to the famous cake.
“She had a beautiful dark chocolate cherry cake. It was my favorite thing she did and I always asked for it for Father’s Day. I’m a baker and I tried to remake it from her notes. The notes won’t be very clear and that doesn’t feel right. It’s a shame to spend a lot of time and have glitches,” the user told Reddit.
The person missed his wife’s style of cake so much that he even asked his children to try making it. When they “refused,” he sought help elsewhere.
“I’m questioning whether I really am an idiot. I just wanted to have her cake and eat it one more time.”
“I asked my two children to try to survive, but they refused. I was warned that they wouldn’t get the recipe right and would stop asking. I went to a local bakery and asked them to find out.”
“They agree as long as I give them permission to sell the cake in the store. It didn’t take them long to figure it out and it’s almost exactly the same as my wife’s,” the user wrote, before revealing how their children reacted to the change.
“I bought one for Father’s Day and my kids were perfectly happy with the cake until I told them it was the bakery. They are upset that I can sell their mother’s (sic) recipe to a bakery,” he wrote. “This whole week they’ve been telling me what an idiot I am for this.”
Lastly, the OP asked to hear the public court’s opinion: “I’m wondering if I really am an idiot. I just wanted to have her cake and eat it one more time.”

With over 1,200 comments at the time of writing, it is clear that the web is not no Imagine the OP is wrong, with Reddit giving its official NTA (“Not the A-hole”) stamp on the OP’s post.
In the most upvoted comment, a Redditor told the OP that he should look at his decision constructively.
“I would consider this a method for your wife to stay in what she created to impart happiness to others. It’s not like you do this for the money,” the commenter wrote, before making a suggestion for the bakery. “Would the bakery consider using your spouse’s title as part of the merchandise title? NAT.”
Still, OP responded by saying she “doubts” the bakery would do this because “they’ve already finished a lot” and even gave her the recipe with “clear instructions.”

Another commenter wanted more information about why his children refused to help and why they were offended by the sale. OP responded, “They claimed they didn’t have the time or energy to do this,” adding, “They hate that a random individual owns and is selling their mother’s truffles.”
While another commenter shared their thoughts on why they disapprove of household income management.
“NTA, I actually hate the idea behind secret home recipes. It seems extremely selfish and self-centered. Plus, no one else was doing this and at least now your gorgeous cake will be shared with others instead of simply being forgotten,” they shared.
The facility was acquired with an overwhelming amount of support for the OP. The truth is, there were only a few people calling OP “the idiot” – with one commenter halfway changing his mind upon reading the post.
“NGL, I was ready to come back with a YTA, like it was a cake you made together every day and it was a money grab… but given the circumstances and their refusal to even help figure this out, you might be NTA right here,” they wrote.
What do you suppose?
Amid all the back and forth regarding the cake, the OP decided to share the recipe with the entire internet – enjoy!
Components:

Methodology:
– Water and cocoa are mixed in a bowl.
– In another bowl the sugar, oil and eggs are mixed. Then it will be tense, so it’s easy
– Add the bitter cream, cherry juice, milk and vanilla to the same bowl. Add water when cool to the bowl.
– Add the flour, bicarbonate and salt.
– Halve the cherries and add them to the dough. The batter goes straight into a cake pan and cooks at 350 until it turns pale.
