Christina Applegate is keeping it real in a new interview.
And unfortunately for the veteran actress, it’s truly awful these days.
In a joint interview with People Magazine for its new issue, Applegate speaks with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who, like Applegate, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
What are some of the challenges that accompany this chronic disease of the central nervous system?
“Well, you pee… in your pants,” Applegate tells the outlet. “Because you probably won’t make it to the bathroom in time. So yes, diapers.
Applegate — who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021 but believes she actually had the disease years earlier — even pulled down the waistband of her jeans during this interview to reveal that she was wearing a diaper adorned with a floral design.
God bless your candor, right?
Applegate and Sigler appear on the latest cover of People, which marks Applegate’s first photo shoot in four years.
“For the last five days I’ve been sobbing and thinking, ‘I’m going to have to cancel.’ I was throwing up last night, thinking about all of this,” Applegate told the magazine.
“Being touched, made up and done, even talking about it, I have spasms.
“Strange positions, shoes, people, noise, weather that I can’t control. Everything goes through my head and I want to go back to bed and watch Naked and afraid.”
To their immense credit, however, Applegate (and Sigler) made plenty of jokes during the Q&A about all the positives that come with multiple sclerosis.
“First of all, parking is amazing,” jokes Applegate, with which Sigler agrees as follows:
“There may be a cure for multiple sclerosis and I’m not giving up my disability placard. We deserve it!
Applegate also said that having “wheelchair seating,” boarding planes early and being pushed through airports is “awesome.”
Applegate admits her battle “sucks,” but remains grateful she doesn’t have to go through it alone.
“She’s the only person who really knows me,” Applegate said of Sigler.
“I can talk about anything with her. Constipation, diarrhea… Bravo TV.”
What brave souls.
We continue to send our best wishes to Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
