Seven soldiers were killed yesterday, Sunday, when their vehicle was the target of a bomb attack in the northwest Pakistannear the border with Afghanistan, the armed forces announced.
A police officer serving in the Lakhi Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province told AFP that the blast “completely destroyed the vehicle” in which the army personnel were traveling.
So far there has been no claim of responsibility for yesterday’s attack. However, the mountainous region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has long been a haven for jihadist groups, especially the Pakistani Taliban and the Islamic State branch in the region.
The Pakistani Taliban, known as the Taliban Movement in Pakistan (TTP), are the most active organization in the region and frequently target security forces. Attacks have increased in Pakistan since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan on August 15, 2021.
