AADE triggers a “tsunami” of controls on islands and tourist destinations in general, not only due to the legality of beaches and resorts, but also due to the interconnection of cash registers and POS by mostly seasonal businesses.
It should be noted that the companies in question should have connected their cash registers to payment terminals from the first day of their reopening, while time is running out for companies that did not have time to respond by the end of April to connect. .
It should also be noted that specific companies must immediately complete the procedures, as the deadlines set by the Ministry of Economy and National Finance begin and expire in June and anyone who fails to meet the deadlines will be faced with severe fines.
It should be noted that around 300 thousand companies have already completed the interconnection in question, and based on the timetables in force:
- immediately, around 30,000 seasonal businesses must have connected cash registers with POS from the first day of operation
- By June 10, approximately 7,500 businesses with legacy cash registers or POS systems will have replaced them and completed interfacing.
- By the end of June, companies with ERP software must complete the process, as long as they have an appointment with a technician.
- By the end of 2025, around 3,000 companies in “Teiresia” will be able to obtain POS without rejection from payment providers.
The fines
Obligated companies that fail to connect their systems within the aforementioned deadlines will face fines unless they can justify that they failed to do so due to force majeure. Specifically, a fine is foreseen for:
- 10,000 euros if they follow a simple accounting system,
- 20,000 euros if they have a diploma.
These fines are reduced by half for businesses established in towns with a population of up to 500 inhabitants and on islands with a population of up to 3,100 inhabitants (except tourist ones), while in case of repeat offense within five years the fines are doubled and for each subsequent violation, they are tripled.
On the other hand, all professionals must activate the IRIS direct payment system by the end of June, otherwise they will have to pay a fine of 1,500 euros. Furthermore, debtors who do not declare a business account to AADE will be subject to an additional administrative fine of 1,000 euros.
In any case, the value of the administrative fine of 1,500 euros referred to above is reduced by half if:
- The debtor will pay the fine within thirty days from the date of notification of the relevant act and, in any case, before the exercise of the remedy. This payment implies the debtor’s automatic waiver of any right to contest or challenge the act of imposing the fine.
- The debtor, within thirty days from the date of the complaint or the audit, presents to the competent audit service a document proving the use of a payment card acceptance terminal, means of card payment and means of payment with services direct payment from account to account.
