The former president of France, François Hollande, was received by the president of SYRIZA-PS, Stefanos Kasselakis, during the European Conference on Small and Medium Entrepreneurs, organized by the Professional Chamber of Athens (EEA) and the General Confederation of Professional Crafts Traders of Greece (GSEVEE), in collaboration with the Economist.
As SYRIZA highlights, the meeting took place in a very good atmosphere and revolved around developments in the European center-left forces, while special emphasis was placed on the need to bring together progressive forces against the extreme right in Europe.
People-centered Europe, less austerity and a just transition
After the meeting, S. Kasselakis stated the following:
“We had excellent contact both at the table where we sat in the room with President Hollande and later, in our private meeting, where we spoke for a long time about the priorities of the progressive space. How Europe should be a more human-centered Europe, with less austerity, with a fair transition for the environment. And also for the future of progressive space in Greece and about how we need to have new leadership that doesn’t let people down, but that inspires and brings about change.
He also told me about examples from abroad and models that have worked, and we talked about how a new approach to politics can be combined with the traditions of the broader left from across Europe.”
