The person who arrested Scottie Scheffler outside the PGA Championship in Kentucky last week violated policy during his encounter with the golfer, officials announced Thursday.
At an informational convention packed with members of the media, Louisville Metro Police Division Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel mentioned Bryan Gillis did not activate his body-worn camera when he had his meeting with Scheffler on May 17 – a big no-no.
She acknowledged that Gillis was reprimanded for the act. City mayor, Craig Greenbergalso admonished the news officer for his actions.
The two officers, however, said two different cameras — one mounted on a nearby pole and another located in the run-up to a police squad car — captured part of the arrest. The footage is expected to be released later Thursday.

How we informGillis said he initially came into contact with Scheffler around 6 a.m. in front of the Valhalla Golf Club — while trying to get the star athlete to obey visitors’ instructions.
Gillis, however, mentioned in police documentation, Scheffler didn’t listen to him… and when he continued forward, he dragged the police several feet – causing accidents.
Scheffler was eventually removed from his car and handcuffed – before being transported to a nearby jail. He was booked on multiple arrest charges, including felonious assault on a police officer.
He was released shortly after… and returned to the main event with no extra points. He was able to finish the weekend in a tie for eighth place.
Despite the officer’s obvious violation, charges against Scheffler still appear to be moving forward. He is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing on the matter on June 3.
