Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent a new message ahead of the European elections, calling on citizens to support ND. In a speech to citizens in Chalkida, the prime minister first referred to infrastructure projects in Evia, highlighting that “we have found the solution for the Chalkida bypass and the project is getting underway”. He stressed that “the northern axis of Euvia is a non-negotiable priority”, announcing that “we will soon be able to say more concrete things”.
He also mentioned that “the local community itself expressed its satisfaction with tourism in the north of Euboea during the Easter days”. “I had committed to supporting northern Evia with infrastructure projects”, he stressed and added that “northern Evia can look to the future with more optimism”.
“European elections should not be treated as loose ballot boxes”
Referring to the upcoming European elections, the Prime Minister said that “we must ask ourselves if we want a political dialogue that reminds us of the worst days of the past, with toxicity and personal characterizations, or if we want to talk about the real problems and the real demands of the European elections”.
Mr Mitsotakis described the European elections as important and said that more than ever participation is imperative. “They should not be treated as loose ballot boxes,” he noted.
He also said that “the world and Europe of 2024 are very different from what they were in 2019” and referred to the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. “Europe is called to find its balance and have a more active presence for the benefit of all Member States”, he underlined and highlighted that “what will be done in the European Parliament and the European Council is important for the future of all us”.
“Like Greece, we must play a very active and essential role” noted the prime minister and added that the Recovery Fund brought 36 billion euros to the country. “With your resources, we modernize hospitals and health centers. The question is: will we have a second Recovery Fund? Will Europe be able to become a geopolitical actor in world events? Will we be able to create a European defense fund so that we not only have to spend national resources on defense, but also invest in European defense systems that will protect Europe and Greece? Will we be able to adapt our agricultural policy to the particularities and needs of our farmers and breeders?” he asked himself and repeated that “your vote is very important”, while at the same time noting that “ND is the strongest center-right party in the PPE”.
“The message that will come out of the polls is that the ND is still strong”
The Prime Minister said that the Greece of 2024 has nothing to do with the Greece of 2019 and 2015. “We went from being a black sheep to being a country with dignity, whose voice is heard in Europe, now we are counted,” he said. he emphasized.
He also said that the first reason to support ND in the European elections “is because ND knows and can claim for the benefit of Greek citizens what we can guarantee from Europe in the next 5-year cycle”. “The second reason why ND has to be strong has to do with the internal political situation”, he noted and added:
“The opposition parties essentially say one thing: let ND have as low percentages as possible, to somehow shorten Mitsotakis, to cause some kind of political unrest and to essentially question the political legitimacy that the citizens gave us in the double elections of May and June. We shouldn’t do them any favors”, he noted and added that “the message that will come out of the polls is that ND is still a powerful star on the political scene, with a strong mandate from citizens to implement a reform program. four years that will bring us ever closer to Europe.”
“We must not give anyone the pressure or the opportunity to jeopardize this course of stability and progress of the country”, continued the prime minister and asked “to accompany old and new leaders”, adding that “ND has proven that it is the “We have kept our values unchanged, but at the same time we have adapted and attracted citizens who did not vote for us in the past,” he added.
