Ryan Garcia failed a drug test the day before his big win over Devin Haney – tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance – but the boxing star is calling BS!
Garcia, 25, was tested on April 19 by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA), the day before his match against Haney, and was replaced with Ostarine, according to boxing reporter Mike Coppinger.
The substance Ostarine aids in muscle growth and can increase strength.
Garcia quickly took to social media to vehemently deny the allegations.
“Everyone I came here to address this bullshit allegation that I cheated,” Garcia said, continuing, “Everyone knows I don’t cheat.”
“Why didn’t they reveal this before the fight? Why did they let me enter the ring like a cheater and come out with the victory and then post this?” Ryan asked.
Of course, Ryan, who weighed more than 3 pounds over the 140-pound limit, won by majority decision, knocking 25-year-old Haney to the canvas three times during the 12-round fight.
It was arguably the best win of his career… but barring a reversal, of course, it’s likely the win will be overturned and could be declared “no contest.”
SI spoke briefly with Devin’s father and coach, Bill Haney … who was furious with the news.
“You are trying to hurt my baby. We play fair. field? I feel fucked up about this. If you can brag about doing this, you shouldn’t be on drugs.
Garcia has the possibility of asking VADA to test a second sample (B sample) that was collected the day before the fight.
