John Travoltais proving that financial knowledge can pay off big…claiming he examined Quentin Tarantinofinance when they met – and it changed their career.
The legendary actor told the story during Turner Classic Movies’ recent event celebrating the cult classic’s 30th anniversary… with Travolta joined by Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Tarantino and much more at the event.
As JT explains… his agent said that QT was a big fan and wanted to meet with him, and John decided to go to Quentin’s house to make a big first impression.
The day started out pretty strange… John says he knocked on the front door and realized he lived in Quentin’s apartment – perfectly describing the layout of the block.
From there, the two played board games based on Travolta’s iconic movie roles… and Tarantino asked him to say random lines like his movie characters during the game. Another really cool request.
Before deciding if he wanted to work with Tarantino, Travolta asked to take a look at his books… and he said they talked a little about money.
Well, it turns out it was the right decision… because Quentin called days later and offered him the role of Vincent Vega in the film.
John says that when he asked why Tarantino wanted him for the role, Quentin said it’s because of the philosophical way in which he ruminated on finances… displaying characteristics he wanted in the Vega character.
In fact… many people credit ‘Pulp’ for boosting Travolta’s career. The guy made some really bad movies in the late ’80s/early ’90s, and it looked like his star might wane before “Pulp Fiction” put him back on A-list status.
Moral of the story…sometimes balancing a checkbook can lead to so much more!
