Toni Kroos may have hung up his boots, but his love for Real Madrid remains indelible. The veteran German star spoke to Marca about his decision to retire from football and revealed his feelings.
“I spoke to my teammates about my decision, each one individually, because with some of them I spent a short time, with others for longer, with others I had a very close relationship. I wanted everyone to know personally that I was leaving.
They tried to convince me to stay, but they knew that wouldn’t happen. I explained to them that I had made the decision a few months ago and that I was not going to change it. It was a very emotionally charged conversation,” he said initially and continued:
“My farewell will forever be in my heart. He was very special. I felt as if 85,000 people had come to the stadium that day just to see me and say goodbye. It was a very beautiful moment, simple but beautiful. I really love this team, in the most realistic sense of the word.”
