A helicopter crashed on Sunday, destroying a radio transmission tower in Houston, Texas, in the southern United States, killing four people.
A child is among the four dead.
The helicopter “either hit a cable (attached to the tower) or the tower itself”Houston Police Chief Noah Dias said at the press conference.
Everyone on board the helicopter died, according to authorities, who added that no one on the ground was injured.
Crashed near residential areas
According to the mayor of the large East Texas city, John Whitmire, the accident occurred near residential areas and a butane tank. “We were very lucky that it didn’t fall one way or another,” he said.
Videos filmed at night show a bright point of light moving across the sky and suddenly bursting into flames. Other aerial images show a tangle of red and white metal beams on the ground that appear to come from the damaged telecommunications tower.
The private helicopter had taken off shortly before from an airport located at least 30 kilometers from the crash site, authorities said. His fate was not known.
