Jelly Roll is retreating from the social media narrative.
The 39-year-old singer announced on his old Twitter account this weekend that he would be leaving the platform after witnessing a simply cruel and horrific rant on his timeline.
It’s hard to argue that the guy isn’t right about this.
“This is easily the most toxic negative app ever – PERIOD. Haha,” Jelly Roll wrote on October 20.
“This place is different man, I always heard it was the Wild West, but man, it’s crazy. It’s a safe place for everyone to say bad things to each other without consequences. I’m out haha.”
Just before the star’s announcement, he posted photos of his appearance at the 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony… where he sang “Mama, I’m Coming Home” as part of his tribute to Ozzy Osbourne.
After uploading a behind-the-scenes photo with his band and Jack Black – along with the caption “This is crazy” – one user responded as follows:
“Jack Black looks very uncomfortable.”
This may not seem like an especially dismissive remark, but it highlighted the idea that strangers feel the need to comment on basically anything on social media.
And these comments are almost always negative.
“Jack Black stayed with us for 10 hours in the green room,” Jelly Roll replied. “The coolest and most comfortable guy I’ve ever met in my life haha.”
The rapper’s decision came just days after an October 18 tweet of his gained attention when he wrote:
“I learned a lot about how disgusting the music business is this week, don’t worry, you know I’ll expose it soon. This whole thing is smoke and mirrors, folks. Everything Russ is saying is REAL!
We cannot say for sure who or what Jelly Roll was referring to in that message.
And now we may never know.
For the record, Jelly Roll’s Instagram account is still active – with the singer garnering 3.4 million followers on that site.
He previously also took a social media hiatus this spring.
“My husband got off the Internet because he’s tired of being bullied about his damn weight,” Jelly Roll’s wife Bunnie XO said in an April 22 TikTok promoting her April 24 episode of her podcast. “It makes me want to cry because he is the sweetest baby angel…
“He doesn’t show it to you, but I’m going to have a very vulnerable moment here.
“It hurts him. The Internet can say whatever they want about you and they say ‘well you’re a celebrity, you should be able to handle it’ – no, fuck, you’re not.
