O Polestar 7 suggested for the first time by the company’s CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, in 2022, will end up replacing the Polestar 2Ingenlath revealed in an interview with Car published on Wednesday.
While the 7 isn’t a direct successor to the 2 compact hatchback, it will sit in roughly the same position, Ingenlath said. This likely means it will be the entry-level model in Polestar’s lineup when it arrives.
The 7 is currently expected to arrive around 2027, with production taking place at a factory in Europe and possibly China. That date fits with when the 2 is expected to end production, given the typical seven- to eight-year lifespan for modern cars.
Production of the 2 began in 2020 and since then Polestar has managed to deliver more than 150 thousand units worldwide.

In his interview with Autocar, Ingenlath said that giving the 2’s successor a new name allows the automaker to introduce new and innovative ideas, rather than being limited to the same format as the previous model, if the successor is also called the 2.
The 7 will likely run on parent company Geely’s SEA dedicated EV platform. The platform supports the 2025 North Star 4 compact crossover, as well as the 2025 Volvo EX30 subcompact crossover. It is also used in Geely’s Zeekr brand vehicles. In the EX30, the platform helps deliver 0-60 mph times of just 3.4 seconds, which is in line with Polestar’s performance guidance.
Before the 7 arrives, Polestar will launch the 5 sedans in 2025 and the 6 sports cars in 2026.
