Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Anfield, as manager Arne Slott’s excellent start on the Reds bench continues.
The Dutchman is the first Liverpool manager to win 10 of their first 11 games, with the latest victory keeping his team top of the table, a point ahead of Manchester City following their dramatic victory at Molinos earlier on Sunday.
Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead from the penalty spot in the 29th minute after Levi Colwill brought down Curtis Jones.
A second penalty awarded at half-time for Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez’s block on the same player was disallowed by the assistant referee (VAR), after initially being awarded by referee John Brooks.
Chelsea took the opportunity to equalize three minutes into the second half, through Nicholas Jackson (48′), but Enzo Maresca’s Blues didn’t take advantage for long.
Liverpool needed just three minutes (51′) to regain the lead, thanks to Curtis Jones heading in at the far post from Salah’s cross, ahead of a hesitant Sanchez.
Slott’s only defeat since replacing Jurgen Klopp was against Nottingham Forest at Anfield in September, and it was Chelsea’s first league defeat under new manager Maresca.
