A funeral ceremony attended by his family, the leadership and many executives of PASOK-Movement for Change, led by President Nikos Androulakis, was held today at the end of three years since the death of Fofi Gennimata.
Also present at the First Cemetery were party secretary Andreas Spyropoulos, former prime minister George Papandreou, Haris Doukas, Anna Diamantopoulou, Pavlos Geroulanos, Thanasis Glavinas, Panagiotis Doudonis, Dimitris Mantzos, Pavlos Christidis, Manolis Christodoulakis, Christos Protopappas, Kostas Geitonas, Dimitris Reppas and Sokratis Famellos from SYRIZA.
“Three years have passed, but Fofi Gennimata’s inexhaustible strength and optimism are deeply engraved in our memory. I believe that our efforts will also justify their great struggle, in the most critical years for the political survival of our faction”, said Nikos Androulakis.
“Fofi kept PASOK standing in the stone years”, commented the party leaders in their private discussions, while pointing out the battle he fought against cancer and the fight for its prevention.
Remember that Fofi Gennimata was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. Thirteen years later, on October 11, 2021, the disease recurred and she was admitted to the “Evangelismos” hospital, after first giving up the race to claim the lead of the party. Just two weeks later, on October 25, and although 24 hours earlier she had slipped into a hepatic coma, she breathed her last in hospital.
