The Maltese-flagged container ship Megalopolis, owned by US-listed company Costamare and part of the AP Moller-Maersk fleet, was targeted by the Houthis with drones.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarii announced the operation on the group’s media website and in a post on X, noting that several drones attacked the ship while it was in the Arabian Sea, Reuters reported.
No additional details have been released at this time. Explaining the supported operation, Saree expressed his support for both Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza, whose leader was killed in an exchange of fire with Israeli forces on Tuesday.
Retaliation for the murder of Sinuar
“The martyrdom of the great leader Yahya Sinwar will only increase the resistance and determination of all the free people of the world to continue the path of liberation and victory,” he said.
However, so far the maritime security services have not reported any incident regarding the ship in question which, according to maritime traffic, the Megalopolis is located off Mirbat, in Oman.
The Maltese-flagged 4,957-teu container ship (built in 2013) is insured by the Swedish Club and is classified by DNV.
