The Turkish president calls for an arms embargo to be imposed by the United Nations on Israel Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Qualifies the embargo as a “effective solution” to end the war in Gaza.
Erdogan made these statements in a statement issued after a few hours’ meeting in Istanbul with the foreign ministers of Russia, Iran, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“Israel wants to increase conflicts in the region”
According to the Turkish announcement, “Israel seeks provocations to expand conflicts in the region (…). A United Nations arms embargo on Israel would be an effective solution to end Israeli aggression.”
Fidan: “The time for diplomacy is over”
It is recalled that, in the same tone, the Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, characteristically stated on Tuesday: The time for diplomacy is “over”, calling for measures to impose “sanctions” against Israel. “We have nothing left to say diplomatically, politically… we are done with this. We need other tools”Fidan said at a conference on the “future of Palestine” held in Ankara.
The Turkish president also praised “permanent peace” in the Caucasus, after Fidan’s meeting with his four counterparts, Russian Sergei Lavrov, Iranian Abbas Araghchi, Armenian Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Zeihun Bairamov.
No details were provided about the content of the discussions.
Tensions have recently arisen between Moscow and Tehran over the “Zangezur Corridor”, a project that Azerbaijan is advancing with Turkey to build a corridor on the border between Armenia, which accepted the project, and Iran, against Tehran’s wishes.
