Damage and power cuts have been caused by flooding in mountainous parts of southeastern France following heavy rain in recent days.
The French meteorological service Meteo France yesterday, Thursday, placed six counties south of the city of Lyon on “red” flood alert.
The alert was downgraded to “orange” today, meaning the water level is expected to drop.
A year’s rain fell in two days
According to the French Environment Minister, Agnes Panier-Rinachet, in some places in the Ardes region, 700 millimeters of water fell in 48 hours.
“It’s more than what falls in more than a year in Paris, the amount is gigantic,” the French Environment Minister told BFM TV, according to Reuters.
The waters swept away vehicles, while the A47 motorway, near Lyon, turned into a torrent.
