USC journalism professor Alan Abrahamson joined us on “TMZ Live” and we asked his opinion on the Menendez brothers’ new effort to get out of prison despite life sentences without parole.
Alan covered Erik and Lyle’s highly televised first trial in 1993 – which ended in a mistrial – for the Los Angeles Times… and he says he sees the brothers as stone-cold killers who deserve to spend the rest of their days behind them. bars.
Erik and Lyle family members are asking for his releaseclaiming there is new evidence José Menéndez abused them. Prosecutors are now reviewing new claims and will decide whether they should be subjected to a new trial or new sentences – presumably manslaughter – which could free them.
Alan says the sexual abuse allegations don’t matter… he says that even though Erik and Lyle were being abused and were afraid of their parents, they were not in immediate danger when they ambushed their mother and father in their Beverly Hills home and blew their brains out with shotguns while the couple watched TV in 1989.
There’s also been a lot of talk about the judge in the second trial not allowing evidence that José allegedly molested his children… but Alan tells us why this is being misinterpreted.
It’s an interesting conversation… watch the full interview tonight on “TMZ Live.”
