More details have emerged in the hours since the world learned that Liam Payne passed away in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16. The ‘One Direction’ singer died after falling from the balcony of a three-story hotel.

The updated reports include information about the incident from the preliminary autopsy report and the local police force. He was 31 years old and is survived by his 7-year-old son Bear Grey.
Security Communications Director Speaks Out on Liam Payne’s Death
As previously reported, the 31-year-old reportedly died shortly after 5pm in the South American country. The incident occurred at the Hotel Casa Sur, in the Palermo neighborhood. Medical professionals later pronounced him dead at the scene.
Pablo Policicchio is director of communications at the Buenos Aires Ministry of Security. Policicchio provided a statement to the the Associated Press, apparently confirming that the fall was not accidental. The director reportedly said that Liam “jumped from the balcony of his room.”
Before Payne allegedly jumped, the hotel manager called police about “a guest who (was) overloaded on drugs and alcohol.” The manager reportedly added that the guest was “destroying the entire room” and requested the presence of a police officer at the scene. AP Revised the 911 call, noting that the manager seemed “more anxious” as the call progressed and mentioned the room’s balcony.
TMZ reported on Wednesday (October 16) that witnesses saw Liam acting erratically in the hotel lobby before his death. He reportedly broke his laptop and had to be escorted to his room. The hotel manager’s 911 call apparently occurred after being escorted to his room.
Note that in 2021, Payne revealed his past addiction to alcohol and prescription medication as a member of the group One Direction. He also confirmed during his appearance on the ‘Diary of a CEO’ podcast that drinking and drug use influenced suicidal ideation.
Autopsy report explains Liam’s injuries
CNN reviewed the preliminary autopsy report on Liam Payne’s body. According to the outlet, the One Direction artist died from multiple injuries, which included “internal and external bleeding.” However, a toxicology report is still pending. TMZ obtained photos showing Payne’s body lying on a deck near tables and chairs.
PEOPLE reports that the head of Buenos Aires’ public emergency medical services systems also provided information about Laim’s injuries. Alberto Crescenti said the One Direction singer suffered a “fracture at the base of the skull” after the fall. According to CNN, the Public Ministry will soon provide more details about the case.

Liam’s family speaks out
As previously reported, Liam shared content from the day he died on his Snapchat Stories. The footage included videos and selfies with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy. The couple, by TMZarrived in Argentina on September 30th. Kate stayed in the country until October 14 before leaving, but Liam chose to stay behind and stayed at the hotel where he died. It’s unclear if or why Liam shared his girlfriend’s content on Snapchat days after she left.

Snapchat recap aside, Liam Payne’s family also spoke out about his sudden death. In a statement to the BBCnon-specific family members revealed that they felt “heartbroken” by the death.
“Liam will forever live in our hearts and we will remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul,” the statement read. “We support each other as best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this terrible time.”
