The Hellenic Public Certification Authority (APED) remote identification service is available to citizens, with the aim of facilitating the acquisition process digital signature.
Citizens can now make a digital appointment with a video call for their identification to issue the approved certificate of their electronic signature. Until now, citizen identification was only possible through physical travel to a KEP of your choice. The remote identification service gives all citizens, individuals and professionals, the possibility of obtaining a digital signature regardless of the distribution location on Greek territory or abroad, or the possibility of physically presenting themselves at a KEP.
The process
The interested party issues a special declaration of responsibility – application either directly at gov.gr in the “Citizen and Daily Life” section and in the “Electronic Signatures” subsection, or via the APED website https://aped.gov.gr/
Enter the EPAD application https://services.aped.gov.gr/apedcitizen/login with TaxisNet codes submit the request for issuing a digital certificate electronically, filling in the code number of the responsible person’s declaration – gov.gr application and choosing the remote identification method.
He chooses the desired day and time for the appointment based on availability for the next 3 business days, as well as the means of communication that serves him (SMS/email).
They then receive the link to make the digital appointment via SMS or email.
During the consultation, you will be asked to present the identification document that you declared in the declaration of responsibility that you submitted to gov.gr, at the same time that you will be given relevant instructions by the worker.
The employee identifies the citizen and confirms the veracity of the request data, checking the identification document. If there is an error, it cancels the request.
Once identification is complete, the citizen receives a six-digit number via SMS on their cell phone, as the application’s protocol number, and is informed whether the identification was carried out successfully.
The request is forwarded to the APED Registration Authority which, after analyzing the data accompanying the request (digital marking video, photograph, validity of the identification document, etc.), approves or rejects the request.
The approval or rejection of the request is communicated to the interested party via SMS to their cell phone along with an eight-digit number, which is used in the process of issuing or revoking the certificate.
