Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly given his approval to the targets of a planned Israeli retaliatory strike against Iran, an Israeli source told ABC News.
However, he did not elaborate on whether these were purely Iranian military targets. At the same time, he said that the strike calendar has not been defined.
Israel’s prime minister called an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss expanding humanitarian aid to Gaza, three officials involved in the discussion said, and aid is likely to increase soon.
A spokesman for Netanyahu did not immediately comment. A fourth Israeli official said the prime minister’s security office was expected to discuss the issue further on Sunday. The meeting was first reported by Israel’s Channel 13 news.
After the 30-day US deadline
The United States has told Israel it must take steps in the next 30 days to improve the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave or face possible restrictions on U.S. military aid, U.S. officials said Tuesday.
No food aid since the beginning of October
The United Nations has long complained about obstacles to sending aid to Gaza and distributing it through the war zone, blaming the obstacles on Israel and lawlessness. The UN said no food aid entered northern Gaza between October 2 and 15.
On Wednesday, the Israeli military unit that oversees aid and trade missions to Gaza said that 50 trucks carrying food, water, medical supplies and shelter equipment provided by Jordan had been moved to northern Gaza.
