Ant. Samaras during his speech in Cyprus.
In his greeting at the year’s awards ceremony, the former prime minister expressed his opposition to “”unfair and destructive” solutions, such as those heard being “in preparation” – in parallel with the Aegean now”, which , as he put it, also recommend “secret division solutions” that “will be the next step in complete Turkification.”
The “calm waters” he said significantly, “when they lead to silent acceptance of achievements, they always bring great storms.”
“Our goal,” continued Mr. Samaras, “cannot be to legalize dichotomous conclusions of the invasion. As with the Annan plan, legitimizing the achievements of the invasion, through the back door, is not a solution. It’s a complete submission. And submission is the ultimate limit of renunciation of politics and national dignity.”
Mr. Samaras reiterated that Greece’s objective should be the end of the occupation and the application of the European acquis in the northern part of the island.
“Furthermore, let us not forget that Europe decided, back in September 2005, that Turkey must recognize the Republic of Cyprus. That should be the basis”, he said and warned:
“Dissolution of the Cypriot state it will also bring about the dismemberment of the Aegean... And the shrinking of Greece itself will begin. So, enough with utopias and insults against Hellenism. It’s a question of Consciousness. But now it is also a question of survival. By saving our Cyprus, we are saving our Greece.”
