Israeli forces shelled the southern suburbs of Beirut this morning, witnesses told Reuters.
The area has been at the center of heavy shelling in recent days. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion and seeing a cloud of smoke. The shelling followed an Israeli warning to residents of a building in the area to leave.
Meanwhile, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, at least 10 people were killed and 15 injured by Israeli attacks on Tuesday night in southern Lebanon. Images broadcast on Al Jazeera television show damaged buildings and cars in the city of Qana, about 10 kilometers southeast of Tyre.
According to Lebanon’s national news agency (NNA), firefighters and rescue teams rushed to the area and the injured were being taken to a hospital in Tyre.
The Israeli military has been attacking Lebanon since September 23, intensifying its operations against Hezbollah. As of October 8, 2023, the death toll from Israeli attacks in Lebanon was 2,350 and the number of injured was 10,906, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
Hezbollah: fires rockets at northern Israel
The Israeli armed forces announced, in turn, that Hezbollah fired around 50 rockets into northern Israel last night. According to the statement, “several missiles were intercepted” and others landed in border areas, with no injuries reported.
Lebanon’s pro-Iranian movement took responsibility for the attacks, stressing that it launched a “barrage of rockets” against the Israeli city of Safed.
