The leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, Ersin Tatar, reiterated its condition of recognizing sovereign equality and international equal status, with a view to informal tripartite dinner with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidisand the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, on October 15, in New York.
In his new statements to the Turkish state news agency Anadolu, he repeated, among other things, that: “Our terms for negotiations with the Greek Cypriots are clear. When sovereignty is satisfied (i.e. our demand for sovereignty), then the negotiation process can begin. Our sovereign equality must be recorded.”
Ersin Tatar mentioned this at dinner he will explain to his interlocutors that direct flights should begin and trade to the self-proclaimed “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” and that the “obsolete embargoes, isolations and barriers that have been unfairly imposed on trade, sport, music and international negotiations must be lifted in order to confirm our sovereignty” .
Ersin Tatar even said that they will not start formal negotiations until the acquired rights of Turkish Cypriots are accepted and clear and unambiguous conditions are met. He stated that he will not back down from the policy of two states with sovereign equality and equal international status. “This dinner is an opportunity to explain our positions”, concluded Ersin Tatar.
