Aoki Lee gets serious about modeling struggles and comparisons to his mother
Recently, Live Bitez shared a video of Aoki Lee Simmons discussing his experiences as a model and the offensive comments he receives. She mentioned that these observations made her think about giving up and looking for other options.
“It’s hard to go somewhere and be told over and over again, ‘No, no, no, you’re not pretty enough, you’re not pretty enough, no.’ I think I’ll probably be ending my modeling career soon and working on getting a job in my major. But you know… while I’m still here, I feel like I should do my best. I hope I don’t sound whiny,” Aoki says in the clip.
Additionally, the 22-year-old admitted that she is tired of the continued comparisons to her mother, Kimora Lee Simmons, constantly calling it “embarrassing” to hear.
“Okay, you’re not as good as your mother, I understand… my mother will always be a much better (role model) than me. But sometimes it’s boring to make that comparison.”
Additionally, Aoki Lee shared that people often say that it must be amazing to watch the castings that his mother attended. Even so, she explained that no, especially if she doesn’t have the opportunity.
Aoki continued to mention that he plans to return to government work, which is in line with his degree. She added that her mother always taught her to end things “with strength and respect,” and that is her goal. She also revealed that she will not be walking in this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Aoki shares how fashion week ruined his mental health
Aoki’s recent comments about quitting modeling follow his revelations about the negative impact Fashion Week had on his mental health, according to TSR.
The Harvard graduate revealed on her Instagram Stories in July that someone told her to go home because no one would hire her in Paris. Despite this, she tried to make the most of her time in the city. Aoki also recalled receiving feedback saying she was “not thin enough,” which led her to “lose weight.” Later, a client told her she was “too thin” and she admitted she wasn’t ready to share more about the experience at that point.
