In tourist turn which harms Turkey and benefits Greece, reports a Focus Online report.
As stated in the report, “Turkey is currently experiencing a downturn in tourism trends, especially among cost-conscious travelers. Many seem to be turning to Greece because of rising prices in Türkiye,” notes Focus.
The report cites an article on the Edinburgh website, according to which the economic crisis in Türkiye is driving many tourists to cheaper destinations in neighboring Greece. In fact, “this development does not only concern” foreign tourists, but also Turkish travelers who want to spend their holidays in comfort abroad”, he adds.
As Hamit Kuk, a consultant at the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies, states, “occupancy rates in hotels in tourist hotspots such as Bodrum and Antalya have fallen to 80%, while occupancy there was always 100%”.
Therefore, Mustafa Demir, head of the Regional Council of Turkish Travel Agencies “expresses his concern and states that many hoteliers are now making offers to fill their rooms and not have to make redundancies”. The main reason is, as everything shows, the “hyperinflation” in Türkiye, which keeps vacationers away.
