A nursing home in Tel Aviv’s Herzliya district was hit when two drones launched from Lebanon entered Israeli airspace.
According to the Israeli military, the drones were spotted from the moment they crossed the border. One was shot down by fighter jets, but it is unclear what happened to the second.
It was also unclear whether the building was hit by the drone or by shrapnel.
“Following the intrusion of an enemy drone, interception attempts were made,” the military said, warning that “other explosions could be heard, due to interceptions or debris (crash).
Images posted on social media show a drone flying over city buildings.
Channel 12 reported that the impact caused a fire and that parts of the city are without power.
Israeli police said they had received several reports of falling debris.
“Area police and firefighters are currently on scene and are conducting a thorough search of the wreckage. At this time, no injuries have been reported, although there is some damage to one building,” police said.
Israel celebrates Yom Kippur tonight after sunset. Sirens sounded in Herzliya shortly after 10pm local time (and Greek time).
