At least 34 Palestinians were killed today by Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip, half of them in Jabalia, the largest of the historic Palestinian refugee camps, where thousands are trapped, as Israeli forces launch attacks in the area, including the organization “Doctors Without Borders” (MSF) complained today.
The IDF, a week ago, launched an operation with the ultimate goal of preventing Hamas from rebuilding.
“No one can enter or leave. Anyone who tries will be shot.” MSF coordinator Sarah Vuylsteke said in a post on Platform X. Five MSF members are trapped in Jabalia, she added.
“I don’t know what to do. We could die at any moment. The world is starving. I’m afraid to stay and I’m afraid to leave” Haidar, a driver who works for an international charity, was quoted as saying.
The official Palestinian news agency Wafa, citing medical sources, reported that a school housing Palestinians displaced from other areas was bombed in Jabalia. Gaza Civil Protection said dozens of people were injured when an Israeli drone opened fire on the same school.
At least 130 dead
Israeli soldiers were also deployed to the neighboring cities of Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahiya. Hamas claims it will continue to defend itself against Israeli attacks, while Israel insists its operations are necessary for its national security.
According to Palestinian health authorities, at least 130 people have been killed so far in this operation. The military has asked residents to evacuate areas where more than 400,000 people are trapped, according to UN estimates.
United Nations officials are concerned that ongoing Israeli operations and evacuation orders in northern Gaza will jeopardize the second phase of vaccinating children against polio, which is expected to begin next week.
