Israeli attacks on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) with Tel Aviv caused international protests ask the UN for the workers to “move 5 kilometers north to avert danger as fighting intensifies and the situation along the Blue Line remains volatile as a result of Hezbollah aggression.”
UNIFIL announced today that two Sri Lankan peacekeepers were injured near the border with Israel, estimating that fire from the Israeli army represents a “very high risk” for its soldiers.
Rome: “Possible war crimes”
Yesterday, Thursday, two Indonesian peacekeepers were injured after Israeli fire on UNIFIL headquarters, sparking outrage, with Rome reaching the point of talking about possible “war crimes” and Paris to summon the Israeli ambassador to France today.
For the second time in 48 hours
Today again, says UNIFIL, which deployed 10,000 men to southern Lebanon, “explosions occurred for the second time in 48 hours” near an observation post and “two peacekeepers were injured.”
Furthermore, “Israeli tanks advanced” and “an Israeli army bulldozer caused parts of the protective wall of a UNIFIL position in the Lebanese village of Lampune to collapse,” he added.
“These actions represent a very big threat to the workers,” he added.
Great Britain: “Aversion”
A Downing Street representative spoke of disgust
Speaking to reporters at the daily briefing, he said: “We are dismayed to hear these reports and it is vital to protect peacekeepers and civilians. As you know, we continue to call for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the suffering and bloodshed. It is a reminder of the importance of all of us renewing our diplomatic efforts to resolve the issue.”
Asked whether Keir Starmer agreed with the Irish Prime Minister about Israel’s violation of international law, the spokesman responded: “All parties must always do everything possible to protect civilians and comply with international law.”
France: For explanations the Israeli ambassador
For explanations, he called the Israeli ambassador in France, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after the new attack against UNIFIL, in which Paris has one of the biggest contributions.
“These attacks constitute serious violations of international law and must stop immediately,” the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
“The Israeli authorities must give an explanation: France today summons the Israeli ambassador to France to the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs,” he added.
Ireland: it’s outrageous
The Irish president strongly criticized Israel’s demand for UN peacekeeping forces to abandon their positions in southern Lebanon.
“It is outrageous that the Israel Defense Forces threatened the peacekeeping force and attempted to evacuate the villages it defends,” said Michael Higgins.
