The emphasis on strengthening the human resources of the National Security Service, the Armed Forces, the Security Forces, the Local Administration and Social Security is given with the approval by the Council of Ministers of the allocation of 19,181 recruitment regular staff in Public for 2025.
At the same time, the maximum permitted number of recruitment of temporary staff (Fixed Term/project leasing) was approved, which is 22,344 and has remained stable over the last three years.
The difficult equation
The distribution of the new positions resulted from a difficult equation that the competent Vice-Minister of the Interior Vivi Charalambogianni was asked to “solve”, as for the final result she had to combine the requests of the ministries, the priorities of the government, the observance of budgetary restrictions and mainly on a 1:1 basis, that is, one location for each exit.
Please note that recruitment planning for the following year is continuation of the 91,819 recruitments approved for the years 2020 to 2024, with the result that approved recruitments for the five-year period 2000-2025 increased to 111,000.
The detailed breakdown by ministry
The distribution of regular positions by ministry and agency is as follows:
Ministry of Economy and National Finance: 116 positions in the central service and in supervised bodies.
Department of State: 121 positions were approved, of which 101 in consular authorities and 20 in the Diplomatic Academy.
Ministry of National Defense: All requests from military schools were approved for the admission of 1,684 students (with a transfer of 450 due to a minimum admission base) and a further 2,000 professional military personnel. In addition, 50 places at the NIMTS (Nursing Foundation of the Army Equity Fund) military hospital.
Ministry of Home Affairs: A total of 107 recruitments in the central service.
Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports: 883 recruitments of teachers, of which 753 in HEIs, 47 in the university hospitals of Aeginiteio (24) and Aretaiio (23) and 78 in other services. Also 326 recruitments of clergy and church staff. Teachers for the 2025-2026 school year will be approved in May 2025.
Ministry of Health: A total of 4,016 positions support the National Health System, of which more than 2,000 are for nursing staff.
Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport: A total of 494 positions, of which 370 in the transport agencies OSY (Road Transport) and STASY (Fixed Transport), 34 in the CAA (Political Services), 41 positions in the ministry’s central service, etc.
Ministry of Environment and Energy: 114 positions in the central service.
Ministry of Development: 139 positions were approved, of which 73 were in the central service.
Ministry of Labor and Social Security: A total of 361 positions, of which 220 are in e-EFKA and the remainder in the central service and other departments.
Ministry of Citizen Protection: 1,750 vacancies were approved. The 1,050 in productive schools (Probationary Police and Vice Police) and 600 Special Guards. In addition to these, 100 security and external security positions for local detention centers and the Elaiona Rehabilitation Center.
Ministry of Justice: A total of 372 positions, of which 100 are at the National Court of Justice Officers and the remaining 272 positions are for secretaries and other employees.
Ministry of Culture: 126 positions were approved in the central service and in the Cultural Tax Offices.
Ministry of Immigration and Asylum: 80 positions in the central service.
Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family: A total of 372 positions to strengthen the structures of the newly created Ministry, of which 330 positions are in social assistance centers.
Ministry of Rural Development and Food: A total of 186 positions in the central service (105), ELGA (45), OPEKEPE (24) and other departments.
Ministry of Navigation and Island Policy: 240 positions were approved, of which 124 in Cadet Schools, 58 in the central service and the rest in guardianships.
Ministry of Tourism: 34 positions in the central service and 3 in the EOT.
Ministry of Digital Governance: A total of 200 positions, most of them (129) in the National Property Registry and the rest in the central body (50) and other supervised bodies.
Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection:He gave the green light to a total of 831 positions, the majority of which are allocated to the fire department. More specifically, 330 in production schools, 450 positions in forest firefighters and special functions) and 51 positions in other specialized personnel in the corps and ministry (helicopter operators, engineers, coke navigators).
The regular staff recruitment puzzle for 2025 is completed with 60 positions in the Presidency of the Government, 2,717 positions in municipalities, 805 in regions, 92 positions in Decentralized Administrations, 782 in Independent Authorities (550 in AADE, 60 in the Independent Inspection Authority of Labor, 61 at RAAEF etc.) and with 50 positions at ERT.
