The historic leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), Abdullah Ocalan, who has been held in solitary confinement in Turkey since 1999, received his first visit in 3.5 years yesterday, Wednesday, at the time of the attack near from Ankara, his nephew said today, Thursday.
“Our last face-to-face meeting with Abdullah Ocalan was on March 3, 2020. As a family, we met Mr. Ocalan years later, on October 23, 2024,” said Omer Ocalan, a member of parliament from the main pro-Kurdish party. party in parliament, of the DEM (former HDP), confirming the information from the Turkish press.
Ocalan is imprisoned on the prison island of Imrali in the Sea of Marmara, south of Istanbul.
Turkish attacks on PKK positions
According to Turkish authorities, the PKK is considered “probably” responsible for the attack that took place yesterday, Wednesday, targeting the headquarters of the Turkish Aerospace Industry TUSAS, 40 kilometers from Ankara. Five people died and 22 were injured in the attack.
In retaliation, the Turkish military carried out attacks on PKK positions in Syria and northern Iraq, against “32 targets that were successfully destroyed”, according to the Ministry of Defense.
