Three elderly people were found dead in a nursing home in Swanage, a coastal town in southwest England. At the same time, four other people are hospitalized after an “incident”, according to local police.
According to a local official, Gary Suttle, the deaths could be due to carbon monoxide leak at Gainsborough Nursing Home. This information has not been confirmed by official sources.
Gas company SGN was called to the nursing home on Wednesday morning, a spokesperson said.
An investigation is underway
Dorset Police are investigating investigation to clarify the case.
The remaining inmates of the nursing home, some of them in wheelchairs, were removed from the premises.
Gainsborough Nursing Home is owned by Agincare. It has around 50 rooms and accommodates elderly patients. Some suffer from dementia. The victims’ families have been informed and at this stage there is no danger to the public, police said.
The South Western Ambulance Service said it had taken two patients to hospital in Poole, about 30 kilometers away. “We sent a danger zone response team, ten double-manned ambulances and a significant number of additional resources,” the agency said in a post on the X platform.
