Iranian President Massoud Pezheskian today expressed his regret to Kazan, Russia, for its weakness UN “put out the fire” in middle Eastwhile the Israeli army is at war in Gaza against the Palestinian organization Hamas and in Lebanon against Hezbollah.
“The fire of war still burns in Palestine, the Gaza Strip and Lebanese cities,” Pezheskian said in a speech at the BRICS summit, adding that “international institutions”, especially the UN, did not have “the necessary effectiveness to put out the fire of this crisis.”
Last week, the head of Iranian diplomacy, Abbas Araghchi, described the UN’s inaction as “disastrous”, in a telephone conversation with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi.
Iran is carrying out an intense diplomatic campaign to promote a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, but also to ease tensions in the region.
Israel promised to make Iran pay for the almost 200 missiles it fired at its territory on October 1.
The attack was presented by Tehran as retaliation for Israeli attacks in Lebanon that killed an Iranian general in late September and the leader of Lebanese Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, whose movement is financially and militarily supported by Iran and is at war with Israel.
Iran does not recognize the State of Israel and has made support for the Palestinian cause one of the pillars of its foreign policy since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
