More details about Brianna Moore’s accusations and case
On Friday, October 18th, Tampa Police posted a official press release confirming Moore’s arrest. According to the report, Moore was arrested that same day in Quitman, Mississippi.
The 19-year-old was later charged with “aggravated manslaughter of a child, child neglect with great bodily harm, failure to report death and unlawful storage of human remains.”

Here’s Why Authorities Believe 19-Year-Old Former University of Tampa Student Threw Her Newborn in the Trash
According to ABC Action Newson April 27, campus security at the University of Tampa alerted police to the possibility of a student suffering a miscarriage. Students reportedly heard a baby crying in Moore’s dorm.
“She lived in a quadruple, four girls living in rooms with a shared common area and shared bathroom. They heard the baby crying and called the police later that day when they discovered blood on the floor of the shared bathroom,” explained Hillsborough County State’s Attorney Suzy Lopez, according to the outlet.
Medical authorities reportedly responded to the call and checked on Moore. However, she reportedly told authorities that she was going through her menstrual cycle.
The next day, police received a separate call from campus security. Authorities reportedly found the baby’s body in the trash.
“University of Tampa campus security came and discovered what appeared to be a newborn baby girl wrapped in a towel and placed in a trash can,” Lopez added, per ABC Action News.
According to Tampa police Press releasethe baby was then identified as Moore’s son. KPTV notes that Moore eventually admitted to giving birth to the child. Additionally, authorities resorted to an autopsy to determine that the child died of “asphyxia and multiple rib fractures.” Furthermore, the case was considered a homicide.
Lopez reportedly explained that the child’s death was “preventable.” Florida reportedly upholds the Safe Harbor Law, which allows “parents to anonymously surrender an unharmed newborn infant seven days old or younger” to public safety authorities without penalty.
“For God’s sake, there’s a fire department across the street from the University of Tampa,” Lopez explained, per Daily Mail. “Tampa General Hospital is just a two or three minute drive away.”

Likewise, the state of California also offers a “Safely Surrendered Infants Program.” According to Department of Social Servicesthe program allows “parents or persons with legal custody to safely surrender…baby(s) within 72 hours of birth, no questions asked.” Additionally, the show gained prominence following the arrest of Kathryn Grace Copeland in September.
As The Shadow Room previously reported, Copeland was accused of giving birth to a child. The child was later found abandoned and deceased in a parking lot. The incident also led to Copeland being arrested and charged.
