Just over a month after its launch, the Grimaldi Group’s Trieste – Ambarli ro-ro line will be reinforced with an intermediate approach to the port of Patras.
This strategic development will not only create a direct link between Greece and Turkey, but will also make connections between these countries and Italy even more extensive and efficient, highlights the Italian maritime group.
Open from Wednesday
The new Trieste-Patra-Amparli service will be fully operational from October 23 and will be operated by sister ships Eco Mediterranea and Eco Malta. These hybrid ro-ro ships, each with a carrying capacity of over 500 trailers, are the most environmentally friendly in the world as they can halve CO2 emissions per unit of cargo compared to the previous generation of ships. ro-ro, and even zero them during your stay in port.
With two weekly departures from each of the three ports, the Trieste-Patra-Amparli service ideally complements Grimaldi Lines’ route network. Firstly, the new direct connection between Greece and Turkey constitutes an important innovation in the context of the motorways of the sea managed by the Group in the Mediterranean.
Furthermore, combined with the thrice-weekly Venice-Bari-Patra service (also with two Eco class ships) and through transshipment at the Greek port, the line will extend its reach to southern Italy, allowing for easy rolling movement of cargo to and from Turkey through the port of Apulia. On the other hand, Venice will serve as another gateway for road freight transported between northern Italy and Turkey via the same transshipment mode.
Finally, for the Italian group’s customers, the two sides of the Adriatic will be even closer: four Eco class ships will operate between northern Italy (Venice, Trieste) and Greece (Patra), providing a total of five departures weekly and in both directions – every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
“Efficient transfers for the benefit of customers”
“The new Trieste-Patra-Amparli route is further proof of the great potential of the maritime road network offered by our Group. By adding a port of call, the scope of a service expands exponentially, leveraging the reach, frequency and efficiency of our connections as a whole”, said the executive president of the Neapolitan group, Emanuele Grimaldi.
“We continue our commitment to increasingly efficient maritime transport, for the benefit of our customers and to promote sustainability. In this context, a third sister ship to Eco Mediterranea and Eco Malta, recently launched at Jinling shipyards in China, will soon be deployed on this line between Italy and Turkey, with the addition of a fourth Eco class ship not being excluded. .” concluded Emanuele Grimaldi.
