The Secretary General of Commerce spoke about the price reduction process in 120 codes that began today Ministry of DevelopmentSotiris Anagnostopoulos on Rush Hour with Nicole Livadari on Naftemporiki Television.
To the question why now and not during the period when we had the big jump in prices, Mr Anagnostopoulos replied that “inflation is already gradually de-escalating, we have seen that in the last five months or so and obviously this means that when we have an average de-escalation of inflation we should, in addition to the products where prices have been increased, also present products where prices have been reduced.”
At the same time, he added that “in this context, and because this is a reality that consumers can request, companies are responding to the request made by the Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, at the beginning of August, to maintain their prices for as long as possible, to help the consumer, which has been significantly affected in the last two years by successive price increases”.
“Changes make sense when inflation is relatively good”
“It’s a very good start that we hope will continue further in the coming months for 600 and, if possible, for more codes,” he added.
When answering why now, he stated that “these changes make sense when inflation has a relatively good image in the market” and highlighted that “we want to take a good photo now if possible. Previously, when food inflation was close to 10%, that is, a year ago, it was obviously much more difficult to do this.”
