Stefanos Kasselakis characterizes the PPC 5 unit in Ptolemais as “an epitome of violent lignitization” and “a pseudo-green development of K. Mitsotakis”.
“PPC Unit 5 at Ptolemais is a state-of-the-art unit that leaves a very small footprint despite burning lignite to generate electricity. This unit has now become the epitome of violent alignment. In other words, a false green development of K . Mitsotakis that makes this entire area economically vulnerable”, he notes in a video he published on social media.
As he notes, “instead of leveraging an investment of almost 2 billion euros and being able to have a smooth transition to green technologies and RES, we don’t even have a spatial map for green technologies. And we are closing this unit, making the area financially vulnerable. An area with high unemployment and high poverty.”
“This is not a way to protect the local community at a time that requires support from the State. Let the residents of Kozani, Ptolemaida, Kastoria, Western Macedonia know that we will be there for them to have energy security and participate in the opportunities of the green transition, together with a comprehensive network of economic activity in the region – which includes the University of Western Macedonia – so that this region can move forward”, adds Mr. Kasselakis.
