The AEK-PAOK derby dominates today’s program for the 8th round of the championship, which is dedicated to the memory of George Baldock.
The Union, second in the ranking together with Olympiakos and Aris, welcomes the pioneer PAOK to “Agia Sophia”. The “yellow and black” are under pressure after the defeat in Agrinio, but the last time they were in a similar situation they reacted and defeated Panathinaikos.
In turn, the Thessalonians won big in Livadia after three consecutive defeats in Greece and Europe, while tonight’s game is followed by the game against Viktoria Plzen on Thursday (24/10) in the Europa League.
A European obligation away from home for the same event as Malmo in Sweden (24/10) also awaits Olympiakos, who will not travel today while they await Levadeiakos in Piraeus, who remain without a win.
The same applies to Kallithea, who after draws against Panathinaikos and AEK hope to have a similar competitive presence with the highly promoted Aris in Thessaloniki, with the hosts hoping for a fourth successive league victory.
Panathinaikos will play in Heraklion against OFI for an emotionally charged game following Baldock’s unfair defeat. Diego Alonso’s team is already -7 behind first place, while on Thursday they await Chelsea for the 2nd game of the Conference League.
OFI, finally, comes from the victory in Serres but also from the departure of Traianos Della, with Milan Rastavac making his debut today on the Cretan bench.
Sunday’s schedule (10/20):
- 16:00 Olympiakos-Levadaiakos
- 18:00 OFI – Panathinaikos
- 20:00 Aris-Kallithea
- 8:30 p.m. AEK-PAOK
