The cops actually knew who they were arresting after they put the handcuffs on Rajon Rondo earlier this year… according to police body camera footage obtained by TMZ Sports Activitiesreveals that officers discussed his NBA career shortly after pulling him over.
The stop, as we previously reported, occurred on January 28th in Jackson County, Indiana… after authorities alleged that Rondo’s black Tesla did not have a license plate properly attached to the back.
The video reveals that after initially talking to Rondo and getting his information… the officers returned to the police car – and talked for a few moments about the former Celtics guard’s time on the field.
“He’s a former basketball player,” one of the officers can be heard saying in the footage. “He performed for several NBA groups.”
He should be famous… the man added: “Not that I care, I’m just telling you.”
Later, during the stop, one of the officers on the scene actually brought up Rondo’s NBA career to his face – asking him point blank, “You played in the NBA, didn’t you, buddy?”
When Rondo told him yes and at length, the officer exclaimed, “Wow!”
Unfortunately for Rondo, his fame didn’t help him much during his run-in with the police… as he was still arrested by the police after mentioning that they found a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a gun in their experience.
The 38-year-old four-time All-Star, who last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season, suffered three expenses during the meet… although in September, he reached a legal agreement with prosecutors to close the case.
Rondo agreed to plead responsible to a misdemeanor based on illegal possession of a firearm… and in exchange, the cops dropped the two other expenses he was dealing with. He was sentenced to 180 days in prison… but the sentence was suspended, meaning he will spend the time on probation if he avoids further trouble.
