The envoy of United Nations for Peace in the Middle East today condemned the continued attacks on civilians after Israeli bombings in Beit Lahia, Gaza, claimed dozens of lives.
“This follows weeks of increasingly intensified operations that have resulted in heavy civilian casualties and an almost complete absence of humanitarian aid to northern populations,” said Tor Venesland, the UN Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.
The Israeli military said it intensified attacks in northern Gaza in early October to prevent the regrouping of Hamas fighters.
At least 87 people died or disappeared under the rubble after an Israeli attack yesterday in Beit Lahia, in northern Gaza, the enclave’s health ministry announced today.
The Israeli military says it is investigating reports of the incident, which resulted in one of the highest casualties in months.
