Dro remembers TI’s son rescuing him from a near-fatal overdose
Recently, T.I. and Young Dro recalled the near-fatal episode while appearing on ‘The Breakfast Club.’ The rappers discussed how Tip Harris’ son, Domani Harris, intervened after the Atlanta artist claimed he was on borrowed time.
“Man, I’m on borrowed time. Do you feel me? I shouldn’t be sitting here doing this interview,” Dro said.
During the interview, Tip confirmed that he saw the ‘Shoulder Lean’ rapper lifeless as Domani showed him Dro’s unresponsive state during a FaceTime call.
“I saw him lifeless. I saw it with my own eyes. Not personally, but my son, Domani, was the one who came in and saw him,” TI explained. He FaceTimed me and said, ‘Hey, what’s up with Dro?’ I’m trying to wake him up, he won’t wake up. I’m like, ‘Dro! Dro! Yes, man.
The 45-year-old claimed Domani’s efforts to wake him brought him back to consciousness. “That’s what woke me up. I was like, ‘This bro is so annoying!’”Dro continued. “I heard him say, ‘What’s wrong?’ and I thought, ‘I don’t know!’” Furthermore, the ‘FDB’ musician revealed that Domani performed CPR on him and joked that he almost “broke his chest” during the process.
More details about Dro’s sobriety journey
In January 2023, Dro, formerly known as D’Juan Montrel Hartopened up about being sober and feeling great because of it, HipHopDX reports. In a VladTV interview, he acknowledged that he needed to work on staying sober every day and shared that he was 100 percent clean of everything.
“Seventeen months. I’m working on my two years. Difficult too. I think my mindset has changed. It’s still a struggle to maintain that because I still live a Hip Hop party life. I go out at night. I pay my bills at clubs and shows where my colleagues smoke, drink and open champagne. And that lifestyle still exists,” he said.
During their conversation, he mentioned that his father struggled with addiction, which prevented him from being involved in Dro’s life. He also shared that the addiction took a toll on his mother’s side of the family, claiming the lives of five of his six siblings.
“My dad is a great guy, but his addiction caused him to not be there. And that was one of the things that made… me want to be (different) from that. When I found myself in that situation, I was very upset and I struggled with it for a long time in my career.”
